There's a new three-row Mazda SUV in town, the Mazda CX-90. You may have already seen the 2023 Mazda CX-9 here at Tumminia Mazda, so now you're probably wondering how these models differ. Here's what you need to know before you buy.
What They Have in Common
On paper, the 2023 Mazda CX-90 and the 2023 Mazda CX-9 share a number of similarities. Both models are three-row SUVs, both come equipped with i-ACTIV AWD®, and they also come standard with a variety of safety features, like Traffic Sign Recognition and Lane-Keep Assist. There are some critical differences between them, however. Understanding those differences is vital to an informed decision.
The Differences
Design: The Mazda CX-90 has a different chassis design and engine layout, meaning that it handles somewhat differently than the Mazda CX-9. The former also offers Kinematic Posture Control™, a borrowed feature from the Mazda MX-5 Miata that improves cornering stability. The latter model does not offer Kinematic Posture Control.
Engine Options: This could be the most crucial difference. The Mazda CX-9 comes equipped with the familiar 2.5-liter turbo engine found in many Mazda models. It produces 250 horsepower and 320 lb-ft of torque.
The Mazda CX-90 comes equipped with a new turbo inline-six engine, the most potent Mazda engine ever. It produces 340 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque. A plug-in hybrid version will also be available.
Seating: The interior of the newer Mazda CX-90 is a bit fresher and offers more seating space than the Mazda CX-9. The latter can seat up to six or seven people, depending on the chosen options. The Mazda CX-90 can seat up to eight.
