Mazda has always been a top performer in terms of safety. Recently, the 2026 Mazda CX-5 joined the ranks of its IIHS Top Safety Pick+ award winners. Tumminia Mazda shares all the exciting details.
IIHS Top Safety Pick+ Award
The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) is a nonprofit organization that’s funded by auto insurance companies. They test new vehicles each year to see how safe they are in a collision, with a goal of limiting injuries, deaths, and damage. The vehicles that perform well are given an IIHS Top Safety Pick award, while the safest vehicles earn an IIHS Top Safety Pick+ award. There are a number of criteria that a vehicle must meet to qualify:
- Good rating in the small overlap front, moderate overlap front, and side tests
- Acceptable or good rating in the headlights category
- Good rating in the pedestrian test for the front crash prevention system
- Acceptable or good rating in the vehicle-to-vehicle 2.0 test
MAZDA Milestone
The 2026 Mazda CX-5 was recently named an IIHS Top Safety Pick+ award winner. This is a huge accomplishment for Mazda. That makes the compact SUV its 100th IIHS Top Safety Pick award winner since the program’s inception in 2008. Of the 100 Mazda winners, 74 of them were IIHS Top Safety Pick+ award winners.
